Phyllis G. Scalettar, PhD
VP, Government Affairs
Dr. Scalettar has held numerous and varied senior management positions within both the public and private sectors. Keynotes of her career include Government operations, federal regulatory enforcement, environmental protection, and emergency management.
Dr. Scalettar focuses on finding ways to bring government and industry together to improve public health and safety and the environment. For example, she established the U.S. Chemical Safety Board and served as its COO. She also founded an information and software development company specializing in chemical risk reporting and profiling of hazmat companies. At the U.S. Dept. of Interior she was instrumental in implementing one of the federal government’s earliest environmental laws. Her efforts resulted in the reclamation of millions of acres of abandoned mine lands and restoration of water bodies impacted by mining operations.
Dr. Scalettar built and managed the key state and local civilian preparedness operation within the internationally monitored FEMA - U.S. Army's program to destroy U.S. stockpiles of chemical weapons. Her leadership experience includes directing scientific teams in research and development, product development, and product implementation efforts. She directed a US Army Surgeon General's initiative to develop medical planning for biological warfare and terrorism events. The result was interactive materials for worldwide training of military and private sector personnel.
As a senior executive with both startups and multi-national corporations, Dr. Scalettar was responsible for business planning, business development, and government relations.
